This poscard shows three locations in Vilnius, Lithuania:
Vilnius is an administrative, cultural, political and business centre of Lithuania. About one seventh of the country’s population live here. The Old Town is the heart of the capital, the oldest and architecturally the richest part of Vilnius. It is one of the largest old town centres in Europe, covering almost one tenth of the city’s area. The Old Town is situated in a picturesque valley of two rivers – the Vilnia and the Neris.
Vilnius displays a variety of both architectural expression and willpower. This is perhaps due to the interesting history that rests in this attractive town, which not always has been the capital of Lithuania. However, for over five centuries, untill he 18th century, Vilnius had been political and cultural centre of Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The Old Town is Vilnius was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994.

Nida is a famous resort in Curonian Bay, Lithuania. Nida is the largest settlement on the Curonain Spit – a long, thin peninsula of sand dunes that extends from Kalingrad in the south to not quite touch Klaipeda with it’s northern tip. The spit, roughly half Russian and half Lithuanian territory, is 98km long and just 400m wide at it’s narrowest point. In Nida on the top of the Parnidzio Dune there is a sand clock. This location is quite unique since here as in the middle of the ocean one can determine one`s precise co-ordinates and the local time.

Although the title of this postcard is Neringa there is a description on the other side that these are Dunes near Nida (Nida Kopos). The Dead Dunes near Nida, also known as the Gray Dunes or the Pyramidical Dunes, are one of the most fascinating sights in Neringa National Park. There is a viewing platform in the dunes where you can look around. The Sea and the Lagoon are both seen from there. It is also possible to take a walk around these dunes. To sail here is a strange experience. The nature is very different to the western shores of the Baltic with it’s skerries, islands and islets. This is rather a land of gigantic sand dunes.
Curonian Spit ia a natural wonder created by sea, wind and man. Curonian Spit (Kursiu Nerija) is the belt of sand with area of 94.4 km2 and its width from 500 metres to 4 km has the four settlements in Lithuania (Juodkrante, Pervalka, Preila and Nida) situated on the road which is 50 km long. To get to the Spit from Klaipeda (Memel) it’s necessary to take a ferry across Curonian lagoon of fresh water.
