This postcard shows the Palace of Culture and Science (Polish: Pa³ac Kultury i Nauki, also abbreviated PKiN) in Warsaw, which is the tallest building in Poland and the world’s 187th tallest building. The building currently serves as an exhibition centre and office complex. It is also used for FM and TV broadcasting. It is 230.68 metres (757 ft) tall which includes the height of the spire of 43 metres. Construction started in 1952 and lasted until 1955. A gift from the Soviet Union to the people of Poland, the tower was constructed, using Soviet plans, almost entirely by 3500 workers from the Soviet Union.

The highest peak on the Karkonosze Mountains is the Sniezka (1602 metres above sea level), known as Snezka in the Czech Republic, which is also the highest peak in Czech.

Sniezka ( 1602 m )is the highest mountain in the Sudety Mountains. On the summit you can visit St Wawrzyniec chapel from the 17th century - St Wawrzyniec is a patron of the tour guides; a meteorological observatory IMGW which looks like a typical flying saucers and a closed czech`s hostel. From Sniezka you have a great view to the panorama of Karkonosze.

KARPACZ - a touristic town in Karkonosze mountains with a lovely view to Sniezka mountain. The town is placed close to the river Lomnica; the boundries of the town include also a highest part of Karkonosze with the hill Sniezka ( 1602 m ). For the sake of its location, Karpacz is a great town to carry on sport, both in the summer and winter.

SZKLARSKA PORÊBA - a town near Jelania Gora with about 8300 of the inhabitants, it is situated in the river Kamienna Valley. The highest point which still belongs to the boundries of the town (1420 m)is situated on the western slopes of Labski Szczyt. Szklarska Poreba is the biggest touristic town in Sudety. Thanks to its location Szklarska Poreba is a great starting point for every excursion in Karkonosze and Izerskie mountains.

The Karkonosze are the highest range of the Sudetes. The Karkonosze make a uniform massif of generally level height, overhung by just a few peaks of relative height up to 100 m (e.g. Wielki Szyszak, 1509 m a.s.l.). Only the peak of Sniezka (1602 m a.s.l.) is distinguished by noticeable relative height and conic shape. A distinctive feature of the Karkonosze is the presence of granite rock groups, e.g. Slonecznik (Sunflower), Konskie Lby (Horse Heads) or Pielgrzymy (Pilgrims).

The features of the Karkonosze are strangely shaped rock formations, post-glacial lakes, bogs, and steep pot-holes. There are also a shelter-homes for tourists. One of them is the oldest hostel in the Polish Mountains - called Samotnia.

At the foot of Sniezka (480 - 850 m above the sea level) lies Karpacz, one of the most popular holiday resorts. A thirteenth-century timber temple called Wang was brought to this town from South Norway in the ninteenth century. In the Karpacz region snow remains late in spring, sometimes until April.

The Karkonosze Mountains form the natural border between Poland and Czech Republic and runs from the northeast to the southeast in Poland. It is part of the Sudetes in Central Europe and large stretches of the mountain range are preserved as a national park.

An exceptionally unique place. The Karkonosze Mountains and Jeleniogórska Valley are vibrant with a thousand years of history of three nations and a multitude of cultures.

This land is wrapped in a host of legends and mysteries: Boles³aw III Wrymouth, the founder of Jelenia Góra; the cruel Kunegunda who ruled the Chojnik Castle; and the mysterious figure of Karkonosz (Mountain Spirit), the master of the Karkonosze Mountains, by some experts regarded as the legendary Gandalf (the white magician from the Lord of Rings story).
