Totnes is situated in the beautiful district known as the South Hams or the “Garden of Devon”. Built on the banks of the River Dart and surrounded by cornfields, pasturelands and orchards, Totnes is one of the most interesting and handsome of the smaller inland towns of south Devon.
The ivied shell keep of the castle, which was built around the 12th century together with Follaton House, situated west of the town, are well worth visiting.
