Although the title of this postcard is Neringa there is a description on the other side that these are Dunes near Nida (Nida Kopos). The Dead Dunes near Nida, also known as the Gray Dunes or the Pyramidical Dunes, are one of the most fascinating sights in Neringa National Park. There is a viewing platform in the dunes where you can look around. The Sea and the Lagoon are both seen from there. It is also possible to take a walk around these dunes. To sail here is a strange experience. The nature is very different to the western shores of the Baltic with it’s skerries, islands and islets. This is rather a land of gigantic sand dunes.
Curonian Spit ia a natural wonder created by sea, wind and man. Curonian Spit (Kursiu Nerija) is the belt of sand with area of 94.4 km2 and its width from 500 metres to 4 km has the four settlements in Lithuania (Juodkrante, Pervalka, Preila and Nida) situated on the road which is 50 km long. To get to the Spit from Klaipeda (Memel) it’s necessary to take a ferry across Curonian lagoon of fresh water.
