Here you can see a postcard showing the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve (Reserva del bosque nuboso Monteverde) in Costa Rica. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve is a very important and popular ecotourism destination in Costa Rica. With its unique cloud canopy, this biological reserve located in Puntarenas province is 6 km east of the town of Santa Elena. Poorly drained areas support swamp forests while parts of the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, dissected by deep gorges, have numerous crystal clear streams tumbling over rapids and waterfalls. The variable climate and large altitudinal gradient has helped produce an extremely high biodiversity.
The Monteverde Cloud Forest has excellent trails for hiking and exploration. It is a great place for bird watching, especially during February through May. The Monteverde Cloud Forest is home more than 300 species of orchids and 200 species of fern. With views of both the Pacific and Caribbean Oceans, this reserve is filled with a huge array of lofty and soaring trees laden with stunning epiphyte plants.
