Melbourne by night

This is a quite ordinary postcard but still I have received it from the other side of the globe ;). It says only “Greetings from Melbourne” and shows a city view by night.

melbourne by night

Melbourne, a relatively modern city which is less than 200 years old, never sits still. New futuristic designs add to the fascinating mix of architecture and ensure the skyline is constantly changing. Melbourne is very much about lifestyle. It is no huge surprise to residents that their city has been named in an international poll as the world’s most liveable city.

Columbus, Ohio

This nice postcard (not wery well scanned..) says that Columbus is one of the fastest growing cities in the world. Columbus is the capital of the Ohio state in U.S.A. The city was founded in 1812 and named for the famed explorer Christopher Columbus.

Columbus, Ohio

Columbus earned its nickname “The Arch City” because of the dozens of metal (formerly wooden) arches that spanned High Street at the turn of the twentieth century. The arches illuminated the thoroughfare and eventually became the means by which electric power was provided to the new streetcars.

Nyhavn – Copenhagen, Denmark

This is a night view of Copenhagen, Denmark. The postcard says “Aftenstemning i Nyahvn” what means “Nyhavn by night”. Nyhavn, the recreational center Of Copenhagen is part of the original Copenhagen Harbor all the way back to the founding of Haven, as Copenhagen was then called, in the 12th century.

Nyhavn docks were constructed in 1670 as an encouragement to trade and shipping, with a new canal going from the harbour of Copenhagen to Kongens Nytorv. Today, this side of Nyhavn has become fashionable. The quay has been turned into a pedestrian street and the harbour basin has been opened for old sailing ships. Excellent restaurants and cafes have opened; and especially in the summer, the quay is crowded with people having a good time.

Red Fort – Delhi, India

Built during the reign of Shah Jahan, the Lal Qila (or Red Fort) has been a mute witness to innumerable conspiracies, scandals and battles. Completed in a span of nine years, it cost about ten million rupees , with about half the sum going towards the building of palaces.
