Pec pod Snìžkou is known not only as a starting point for the climbing route to Snìžka, the highest mountain in the Czech Republic, but also as an active alpine resort, open both in the summer and winter. Pec pod Snìžkou benefits from its geographic position and its altitute (800 – 1 602 m above sea level). Over 5 to 6 months of the year it is covered with snow.
Pec pod Snìžkou is one of the most well-known and most frequented mountain resorts in the Czech Republic, with yearround use. It lies in the valley of the river Úpa and the brooks Zelený and LuènÃ, set in resplendent natural surroundings amid the peaks Èerná hora, Jelenà vrch, Lišèà hora, Studniènà hora, and Snìžka. The ski park SKI-PEC belongs among the best skiing terrains in the Czech Republic. Ten skilifts and one 4-seat chairlift with the total length of almost 7,500m (4 and 1 miles) can transport up to 8,750 skiers per hour.
